Megan Nicholls has a passion for fashion – and she isn't afraid to show it.

Nicholls is a name that will be familiar to racing fans as a former jockey and the daughter of legendary trainer Paul Nicholls. She is also an established broadcaster in her own right and will be on our screens throughout the week as part of the ITV Racing team covering the 2024 Cheltenham Festival.

Alongside the likes of Ruby Walsh, AP McCoy, Kevin Blake and Mick Fitzgerald, the 26-year-old will provide insight into the on-track action from her perspective as a former jockey. Megan has been working for ITV since 2021, and it's not just her expert opinions that are a winner with horse racing fans.

Anyone who has watched ITV racing over the last couple of years should know that Nicholls is a big fashion connoisseur. The former flat jockey is one of the most stylish presenters on TV and adds a splash of colour with her sumptuous array of outfit choices.

She spoke to Daily Star Sport ahead of the Festival to discuss her style – and advise racegoers on what best to wear at Cheltenham.

"I have a real passion for fashion," Nicholls beams, trying not to laugh at the cliche nature of the phrase itself. "I guess it comes with broadcasting; you have to make sure you’re looking smart. I've always had real passion for it, and it’s something I’m still very much interested in."

Nicholls picks out all of her outfits herself, with a little help from some of her favourite fashion houses. "I’ve got some brands that I’m very fortune to work alongside," she continues, before revealing who she'll be wearing at the Festival.

"Holland Cooper, Clements and Church, Browne and Daughters, Karen Millen and Fairfax and Favor – those are the five brands that I’m wearing at the Festival. Brands like that are brilliant to work with and really accommodating.

"If I’ve got an image in my head, they want to help me pull that together. Being able to work with them and go to shops or boutiques to find what I think is the right outfit opens my eyes. It allows me to learn a lot from all of the real fashion experts."

Having transitioned so successfully from being a jockey – Nicholls won the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree before her retirement from the saddle – to broadcasting prompts another question. Would she be interested in working more closely in fashion?

The answer is not just yet. "Racing is my no.1 at the moment," she explains. "But fashion links in with it. We need to be dressing smart, we need an outfit. With all the days I’m presenting on TV, I’m always linking in the fashion side of things as well, so it’s a really lovely balance."

Nicholls will be on our screens for all four days of ITV's coverage of Cheltenham, which begins today (Tuesday) with Champions Day. While millions will be watching her from home, there'll be thousands of fashion-consciousness racegoers watching the action unfold from the grandstands at Prestbury Park.

What advice does she have for those looking to make their mark during the week? "Comfort is no.1," she stressed. "I always try to be really smart but practical as well.

"From practice, I’ve managed to ignore my numb feet by day four and wear heels that are probably higher than normal! But I think being warm is so important. I’m out in the paddocks all day without moving an awful lot, so one thing I learned very quickly was to make sure I’ve got warm clothing.

"I think with some of those brands you can really get that balance. The Cheltenham Festival has become more of a fashion thing over the years, but you can do it sensibly while still looking chic as well.

Megan Nicholls is a Horse racing Ambassador for Bet MGM and will be on ITV Racing, ITV1 1-4.30pm every day of the Cheltenham Festival.
