ManServants Are the New Bachelorette Party Staple

Posted by Larita Shotwell on Thursday, February 22, 2024

Have you ever attended a bachelorette party that was just too aggressive? Male strippers, raunchy card games and penis balloons (and shot glasses and straws and necklaces, oh my!) may be great for sorority sisters, but there's a certain segment of the population for which that method of celebration just doesn't fly. ManServants founders Josephine Wai Lin and Dala Khajah knew this all too well: In need of a gentleman to help celebrate a co-worker's birthday in a professional setting (read: the office), they searched high and low for "a guy Friday to answers our calls and serve us fresh coconuts." When they discovered this niche concierge service simply did not exist, they decided to create it. Thus, ManServants was born.

So what exactly does a ManServant do? Described by Wai Lin and Khajah as "a mix between The Most Interesting Man In The World and a dapper English butler," the ManServant is called on to serve strictly non-sexual needs, whether that means making and serving drinks, DJ-ing, taking 65 photos to get the perfect Instagram, showering compliments or protecting his "ladies" from imaginary paparazzi. Basically, a ManServant is there to make you feel like the most important woman in the room for a few hours.

Naturally, the BAZAAR.com team had to give the service a try. Since you get to name your ManServant, we dubbed ours "Tom Ford" (has there ever been a more dapper gentleman? we think not) and assigned him classic fashion tasks, such as steaming our clothes, making coffee runs and stroking our egos. Tom Ford carried them all out in the most professional manner—while wearing a tux—and went even further, addressing each editor as "my lady," setting up an afternoon wine and cheese station and cooling us off on the hot summer day with a handheld fan. When it was time for him to go, everyone's energy deflated a bit—after all, we could definitely get used to that treatment on the regular. As it is, we plan on calling on a ManServant for our upcoming bachelorette parties—because a future bride needs a reminder that she's a princess and should be treated as such more than she needs a Magic Mike hopeful grinding on her face.
